OMAHA–Update on Montana Sanwick case. (BDN v7 #36, 37, 38, 39, 40,43 ). Sanwick regains custody of baby she left in hospital bathroom. Judge says Sanwick has been “completely compliant with a plan for reuniting the family. Baby’s father, Joshua Howe says family is relieved that case is settled. “Very happy with how things turned out even though it was upsetting at first. I think that I want everyone to understand that we’re a very safe and loving family and we look forward to moving on with the rest of our lives.

FORT BERTHOLD RESERVATION–Update on Dana Deegan case. (BDN v7 #21). Deegan, 34, pleads down and enters 2nd degree murder guilty plea in 1999 death of newborn. Left baby home alone for 2 weeks after birth and found him dead when she returned. Left body in suitcase by side of road.

Admits that family contacted agency for help in finding accommodations in Belmont area. Family didn’t call back. Housing Dept.says it had provided them with “substantial assistance” in past and referred them to DOS when they could offer no more.

Police confirm that baby’s mother Kelly Norman, 33, and her partner Todd Boorer, were known to Dept. of Community Services and considered “frequent flyers” of public housing system. DOCS and Housing band together to “vilify parents,” blaming Boorer for not showing up for meeting with dept. Police claim, Boorer, who did not know Norman was pregnant, was arrested earlier this year for allegedly beating her.
