SAUK VILLAGE–Update on Sauk Village case (BDN v6 #43-44, 45, 46, 47, 49, 50). Unnamed girl, 15, convicted of 2nd degree murder and concealing a homicide. Verdict came after 20 minute trial in which both sides agreed on the evidence in case. Girl had been removed from her biological parents earlier for excessive corporal punishment and other abuse. Foster mother told her if she brought a “bastard” home she’d kick her out.

ILKESTON–Update on Emma Kerns case (BDN v7 #37). Coroner says he was unable to determine cause of death; no charges expected to be filed against Kerns. Kerns, a former reporter for the Illkson Advertiser, hid pregnancy and gave birth at home. After baby died she took it to hospital.
