Maybe even a romance might bloom, a sort of Romeo and Juliet meets Roe v Wade, and if one of the teens accidentally finds themselves pregnant–well, the safe haven law could be put to immediate good use.”

Garbage bin–the girl child’s new abode

http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1121106

KOLKATA–10 newborns found abandoned in Kolkata garbage dumps over last 10 months; 14 cases over same time in Jharkhand. Many go unreported. Unnamed NGO that works for children’s rights holds meeting to discuss problem. Most babies they believe, are born to unwed parents and are difficult to trace. Even parents who are identified refuse to take babies back. “This is a social evil and cannot be exorcised overnight. I would advise parents to hand over their ‘unwanted’ children to an orphanage rather than leaving them to die in places such as garbage dumps,” says social worker and psychologist Sucheta Dutta.
