TAMPA–Update on Mary Louise Doe case (BDN v6 #21). Doe, 42, who gave birth in alley after consuming large amounts of alcohol and crack, sentenced. After drawn-out negotiations and urging of ass’t. state attorney judge agreed to 5 year sentence. Must complete 10 years probation after release and complete drug and alcohol evaluation and follow advised treatment.

ME says that Williams, charged with burying newborn body’s in backyard last year has since had twins, but only one infant’s body has been found. On August 2, Williams reported her child had been stillborn, but paramedics found one fetus with 2 cords.

DOHA–New law mandates that anybody who finds an abandoned baby should hand it over to nearest police station; police in turn will inform the Qatar Foundation for Orphans to provide care. Foundation, after receiving child, must approach court suggesting a name for the child and imaginary names for the parents for the court’s approval. Court will consider parents as naturalized Qataris and their religion as Islam. Birth certificates won’t mention way child was found. .
