ANAHEIM–Unidentified 17-year old mother charged with suspicion of felony child abuse and felony child neglect; remains hospitalized. Will be taken to OC Juvenile Hall once released. Reportedly was at Denny’s with her boyfriend, his parents and 2 children when she went to the bathroom and delivered baby. Parents in Indiana, who probably did not know she was pregnant, have been informed.

A year later, authorities still not certain whether “missing baby” ever existed. 15-year old runaway told police various stories about abandoning newborn then said she had never been pregnant. Dovonta Norman, the alleged father, hopes there is a baby and its alive; wants to be a father. Even medical evidence of pregnancy and delivery is contradictory; girl may have suffered from pseudocyesis, or false pregnancy.

Prosecutor says his office considered nature of the offense, including actual and potential harm and the “circumstances of the defendant including her age, level of education, her living arrangements and lifestyle. Wayne County Social Services says they work independent of police and rarely make recommends regarding prosecution; if recommendations are made, the police are free to do with them what they please. Prosecutor says he is launching a SH “No Questions Asked” public awareness campaign.

Avakyan says she is poor, has no money to raise child, and had to give birth at train station since she had no time to get to hospital. Avakyan’s family refuses to care for baby; said they could barely care of her first, a 7-year old boy. Both born out of wedlock. Baby’s father refuses to take him. JOHANNESBURG–Cecilla Mokgabane Seale, 34 and aunt Rosinah Show, 48, who confessed last week to killing baby and burying body in yard drop bail application. Seale also confessed to killing another baby a year ago. Police investigating Seale’s midwife on the possibility that she may have assisted in this and other neonaticides. Protestors meet outside and demand all 3 be given life sentences. Carry signs reading, “Condoms are free. Abortion is legal. No bail for baby killer” and “Thou shalt not kill, Exodus 20:13.” Seale’s’ brother says he’s happy women will remain in custody; fears for their safety if released.
