Safe haven is no haven if it’s unused
http://www.startribune.com/462/story/1094110.html
RED WING–Laurie Krupp, director of Safe Place for Newborns, says an informal survey of hospitals shows that since Jan. 2000 there have been at least 12 and maybe as many as 14 SH cases. Last week’s Red Wing case, though, shows message isn’t connecting with those who need it. “But you know when people are psychologically stressed, they don’t always see the signs and read the brochures and trust easily And they don’t see straight.” Krupp complains that there’s never been enough money to adequately fund promotion. Contributions have fallen since Katrina. Susan Shaft, RN and manager of the special care and newborn nurseries at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, says that women who kill their newborns are a different group than those who use SH “The person who decides to put their baby in the river or a dumpster or go to the ER was going a different direction than that person who was putting the baby up for adoption” Krupp has hired marketing expert to promote SH for women who discard or kill newborns.

The rise of infanticide?
http://www.albertmohler.com/blog.php?selectMonth=3&selectYear=2007
Commentary by Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, on German infanticides. “The rise of infanticide is shocking, but hardly surprising. After all, in many societies these babies could be safely aborted almost up to the time of their delivery. The logic of infanticide is just the logic of abortion pushed beyond the moment of birth.”
