HARTFORD–Gov. Jodi Rell says Krom case is a “somber reminder” for all state residents to be familiar with SH law. CT DCF distributing 65,000 pamphlets to 169 municipalities and to all middle and high schools. Also distributing posters in English and Spanish. Rell wants news media to promote law. “Even if a parent does not see a news story about the law directly, he or she may have a friend or other acquaintance who learns about the law and is able to share the information. If the law is going to have its intended effect, parents have to know about it.” Since law went into effect Oct. 1, 2000, 6 newborns SH’d; most recent case on Feb. 27, 2006. 4 other babies placed for adoption and 1 placed with a relative. During same time 3 newborns abandoned in Greenwich and Brookfield (2001) and Branford (2004). Branford baby and another adopted and third placed with relatives.
